OUR THOUGHTS
THE HUNGRY HUB is a nonprofit organization that promotes children and youth empowerment through nutritional education and culinary programs.
Cooking in general has been a lifelong passion, inspiration and also a great escape to all of us at THE HUNGRY HUB. Cooking allows for an artistic approach, a creative outlet and transformation of ideas into food, a dish or the presentation of food as it is served. Having lived and been part of the spanish culture all of our lives, Paella & Tapas is the closest and most meaningful dish to us, to date. Cooking meals of all types has a magical impact on our mood and state of mind. Depression, struggles, worries, fear or simply 'having a bad day' are immediately transformed into joy, inspiration and happiness by the touch of an ingredient, washing and cutting vegetables, grabbing a pan and lighting up the stove.
As we focus on our youth, we become increasingly worried about the void that exists after school, during the summer breaks and even after school or on the weekends. This void is exploited by technology and education is influenced by tech giants and social media platforms. Some of the essential traits such as cooking and sourcing food is no longer a focus point in many families, worldwide. Parents no longer emphasize on teaching their children how to cook, the nutritional value of each ingredient, flavors and how to make sauces, cook a perfect steak or even make a spanish paella.
Fact is that many children and adolescents of underdeveloped communities often lack inspiration, the proper tools or support, role models or simply of things to do when they leave school.

OUR MISSION
Our mission is to offer cooking programs as a tool to engage and inspire adolescents to use food as a medium to overcome burden and struggles in life, finding a support system that can help them restructure their focus and goals. Turn hopelessness and disappointment into motivation and drive.
Teaching our youth how to cook, understanding ingredients and nutritional values of a specific meal is the gateway to understanding different cultures, food preferences and how much fun cooking can actually be.

HOW CAN WE ACHIEVE THAT?
Our plan is to offer cooking courses as well as after school programs for low income communities and underfunded school districts.
Cooking Classes: Cooking classes are a primary tool to showcase the type of foods that have impacted us the most, how it is prepared and and ingredients sourced. Cooking classes are also a great tool to change a perspective and mood during a specific period of time. They create experiences that are unforgettable, can incentivize positive thinking and motivate to pursue dreams and aspirations that every child has.
Meal programs for underfunded school districts: It is a behavioral fact that hungry children cannot be happy children. And happiness is the gateway to learning and focusing on the future. We work tirelessly with small and underfunded school districts in all of California to offer vegan and non-vegan meals in form of Paella lunches.
